ENG vs IRE, 2nd ODI: Team news

England have named a second-string side for the series rewarding Zak Crawley, the highest run-getter in Ashes 2023, with the captaincy badge. Crawley last featured in ODI cricket way back in 2021. Ben Duckett is entrusted with vice-captaincy. The squad comprises numerous fresh faces, with four uncapped players and seven players with six or fewer ODIs under their belts.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore has replaced Joe Root, the only player in the series from England’s World Cup team. Root was supposed to play the series opener as final preparation before the showpiece event but saw the game washed out.

Dashing opener Paul Stirling will captain Ireland, who failed to seal a berth in the quadrennial event next month. Curtis Campher will be promoted to No. 3, as stated by chief selector, Andrew White.

Match prediction – Today’s England-Ireland live match

A close contest is on the cards. It will be a battle between England’s young guns and a promising Ireland side having players like Stirling, Harry Tector and Josh Little in their ranks. England still bat deep despite having a new squad, giving them a slight competitive edge over the tourists.

Ireland went down 1-2 during their last ODI series in England in 2020.
